Joyce Clissold (1905-1982)

While still a student at the Central School of Art, Clissold began working for Footprints, a block-printing company. She became its chief designer in 1927, and two years later she became its owner-manager. In 1929, Clissold took upon herself the responsibility of creating all of the designs printed at Footprints. At first her designs tended toward the rhythmic and abstract, later became pictorial.
