Lucien Pissarro shared the libertarian beliefs of his father, Camille, and was sympathetic towards the British labour movement. This drawing, that was probably intended to be made into a print – but never was – shows the scene at Hyde Park Corner on Sunday, 1st May 1892, when between 300,000 – 500,000 workers gathered to demand a statutory eight-hour day.
